Frequently Asked Questions for our countertops

What countertop products do you provide?

We provide laminate, solid surface, engineered quartz stone and granite countertops. Each product has variations of edge treatments and other options that will customize your top for the look you want in your home or office.

What edge treatments are offered?

Laminate countertops have a choice of self edge or post form. Self edge laminate tops are custom made with a standard square edge, laminate bevel edge, wood edge diamond edge (wood bevel), or wood edge. Wood and diamond edge countertops have the choice of a bevel or ogee edge.

Laminate also has a post form option. Post form countertops come with a rolled edge. The edges provided for post form countertops are waterfall, no-drip, mystique, bullnose, wood edge, and laminate bevel.

Standard solid surface edges include roundover and bevel edges. Small and large ogee, round over top and bottom, bevel top and bottom, half bullnose and full bullnose edges are also available.  Different specialty edges can be manufactured, as well. If you have a special edge that you would like, we will gladly accomodate your countertop needs. Let us know what edge treatment you would like.

Our standard granite and quartz edges include pencil edge, 1/4 roundover, half bullnose and full bullnose. The ogee edge is an optional upgrade.

Will there be seams in my countertop?

Laminate countertops will likely have a seam.

Postform countertops come in 8, 10, and 12 foot lengths. Anything longer than 12 foot will have a seam.  A top that turns a corner will also have a seam in the corner where it is mitered.

Self edge counter seams will be dependent on the size of the counter.  Anything longer than 12 foot and/or wider than 5 foot will have a seam.

Solid surface countertops will be seamed together; however, seams in solid surface will likely be undetectable.  Solid surface material is considered to have an invisible seam.

Granite and quartz countertops will have seams. We will inform you of where the seams will be located.

Can I put hot pots on my countertop?

Laminate countertops can withstand some heat, however, if the pot is too hot to touch, it is too hot for the laminate countertop.  Hot surfaces will scorch the laminated surface.

Solid surface can also take some heat.  You should not place anything scalding hot on the surface.  It is recommended to put hot pots and pans on a trivet to disperse the heat.

Granite and engineered stone countertops can take some heat, however, it is not recommended to place anything hot on the counter surface. Granite and engineered stones can withstand exposure to normal cooking temperatures from pots, pans and dishes without being damaged. To maintain the beauty of your countertops, do not place hot skillets or roasting pans directly onto the surface. We recommend the use of trivets and hot pads.

The use of trivets is recommended for all countertops surfaces.

Does Walsh Tops install?

We install all of our products.

It is a manufacturers requirement that Walsh Tops installs its solid surface countertops.  If the counters were not installed by a certified manufacturer, the manufacturer of the solid surface would not guarantee the warranty.

We are now offering installation of all of our laminate countertops.

Does Walsh Tops do plumbing and electrical work?

We are not licensed to do plumbing or electrical work.  It is recommended that you set up those services once the installation of the countertop is complete.  We will gladly keep you informed as to when the countertop is going to be complete, so that you can coordinate your schedule with the other contractors.

What is your lead time?

Lead times vary depending on the product that is purchased and the current industry workload.  Please contact us with a current lead time for your countertop order.

Do I need to be there for the measure/template and the install?

Yes.  It is important to be there for the measurements.  The service representative may need to know specific information for your home.  Types and specifications of sinks and stoves/cook tops, depths of bar tops, and extras that you would like for your custom kitchen need to be addressed at the time of measure.

It is also important for someone to be there during the installation.  Questions, concerns, warranty information and maintenance issues need to be addressed at this time.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash and check.  We have credit accounts for ongoing customers which may be established with our accounting department.
